Aviation Safety Management Systems for Operational Personnel

Overview

The SMS for Operational Personnel course is designed to provide operational staff with a comprehensive understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and their role in promoting safety within the organization. Participants will gain knowledge and practical skills necessary to effectively implement and maintain SMS principles in their daily operational activities.

Course Objectives

1. Understand the fundamental concepts and principles of SMS.
2. Recognize the importance of safety culture and its impact on safety performance.
3. Identify hazards and assess risks in operational environments.
4. Apply risk management techniques to mitigate operational risks.
5. Implement effective safety communication and reporting practices.
6. Comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
7. Contribute to continuous improvement of safety performance.

Targeted Audience

Operational personnel involved in day-to-day activities within the aviation industry, such as pilots, air traffic controllers, ground handling staff, maintenance personnel, and cabin crew.

Assessment Plan

The course will include both formative and summative assessments to evaluate the participants’ understanding and application of the course material.

Formative Assessments:

Throughout the course, participants will engage in group discussions, case studies, and quizzes exercises to reinforce their learning. These activities will provide an opportunity for ongoing feedback and self-assessment. The formative assessments contribute 40% to the final mark.

Summative Assessments:

At the end of the course, participants will be evaluated through a written examination to assess their knowledge and understanding of SMS principles and their ability to apply them in real-world scenarios. The Summative Assessment contributes 60% to the final mark.

Certification

Participants who successfully complete the course and meet the assessment criteria will receive a certificate of completion, recognizing their proficiency in SMS for operational personnel.
